Some MacBook owners have suffered the rubber coating on the underside of their beloved MacBook from peeling and in extreme cases the actual casing being warped. Luckily Apple are now offering to replace the part for free at your local Apple store or nearest AASP. Alternatively, you can send off for a repair kit which is great for those MacBook users preferring to do the repair themselves.

Those pesky hackers behind the MacDefender have released an updated version as Apple prepares to release a security update for Mac OS X.

Like MacDefender, MacSecurity and MacProtector, the latest version - called Mac Guard - is being spread by linking it to popular internet search terms. Unlike its predecessors however, Mac Guard does not require a user's permission to be installed, according to security firm Intego.

Apple seems to be revamping their retails stores by installing iPad2’s next to all its products. The iPad2 will allow you to view any product information, and price comparisons. They will be replacing the ‘old fashioned’ style index cards.

Basically the need of talking to a human customer representative is zero to non. But of course if you do find the need to talk to ‘a genius’ there is an option button on the corner of the iPad2 screen to request a member of staff.

Through a specially designed app, called iQueue, your request will be sent to a sales representatives iPhone. Whoever is available can accept your request and find your exact location within the store. Alternatively you can also make an appointment with the genius bar.

So has Apple created an ingenious cost-cutting friendly way of the overhaul shopping experience? So far there are mixed reactions.

As the displays are locked in it will be difficult for people in wheelchairs to access the devices. Also for the more eco-conscious Apple user is this really a greener way of practice as the iPad2’s will run even when business is closed? On the other hand some people argue that they are unable to purchase a wifi only iPad2 in store while there are so many of the devices being used all around the shop. Apple’s distinctive look might also be compromised by cables running al over the place to allow the displays to allow the displays function.

But of course the true Apple fans seem to be impressed by their experience and find the concept very cool and exciting.

The real question in all of this is how interactive can an iPad really be?

Since late 1997 personal music files have been stored on a server in the cloud and then streamed back to computers and even mobile devices and we should thank the likes of, for example, MP3. Unfortunately this was mostly the domain of geeks and for others the concept was hard to grasp. These days, digital music is the mainstream. Everyone is now well accustomed to downloading music and carrying it around with us on our mobile phones, portable playing devices, or listening to it on laptops such as the MacBook, MacBook Pro or desktops like Apple’s iMac.

However, recently there is much talk of a whole new enterprise set to hit the mainstream: cloud-based music services. This means your music is stored on a server somewhere, distributing the stored songs as required to your ever-expanding number of devices.

In the past both Amazon and Google launched their first strikes into this exciting and brave new world. Problem soon ended up with them struggling by the lack of record label licensing. They’re essentially nothing more then a glamorized hard drives - you have to upload all the songs yourself – which can take days and slowing your computer and internet connections bandwidth right down.

Apple appears set to raise the bar and may finally be ready to make its big cloud push.  According to the Times, Apple has already hammered out agreements with EMI, Sony and Warner and talks are on-going with the last of the ‘big four’ Universal. This will give Apple monopoly on cloud music.

Apple’s triumphs in licensing labels suggests that Apple iCloud, which some are calling it, means you can push your local music collection to Apple’s servers in mere minutes as no user has the time or patience to spend days uploading thousands of tunes and doing the same again when purchasing new music.

It’s clear copyright law is a massive issue. Which overly weighs down services like Amazon and Google. But Apple holds its own copyright license which means you will zing your music files around virtually, by merely identifying them trough their metadata.

So in the Apple style that we’re all very accustomed to, it has allowed its competitors to have the first input in this up and coming cloud music market. However, by taking its time, and crossing the t’s and dotting the I’s Apple could come out on top once again.

Whilst web discussions are increasing regarding the successor to Steve Jobs shareholders at Apple Inc have voted to refrain from confirming who that might be.

Daily operations are no longer being handled by Steve and even though it is believed he will continue to take part in strategic planning some are doubting his role in the future and the ability for him to steer the company forward any longer. Recently a request for Apple to make known the plan for succession was adamantly rejected by shareholders leaving some believing the results from the vote was possibly quite close (according to Reuters)

Tim Cook - the current captain of the ship - looks like the obvious successor with experience in running things in the not too distant past however Steve is a difficult figure for anyone to replace in this critical time for the company and brand with launches scheduled for the iPad 2 and the iPhone 5 expected. The silence continues as it raises more and more speculation - only time will tell...
